The Game

What is Daadi?

Daadi is a modern digital reincarnation of Nine Men's Morris — one of the oldest and most celebrated strategy board games on earth. Known as Navakankari in India, this two-player duel of wits has been played across continents for over three millennia.

Strategy First

Every move matters. Plan multiple steps ahead, set traps, and force your opponent into losing positions. No luck — pure intellect.

🌍

Global Heritage

Discovered in ancient Egypt (1400 BC), played in Rome, India, and medieval Europe. A game that transcends borders and centuries.

Fast & Rewarding

A game lasts 10-30 minutes. Every session challenges your mind, sharpens your reflexes, and rewards deep strategic thinking.

Through the Ages

3,500 Years of History

Ancient Egypt

Born on the Nile

The earliest known Nine Men's Morris board was carved into the roof of the Temple at Kurna, Egypt, over 3,400 years ago. Pharaohs and their courts played this game of wits.

Roman Empire

Conquest Across Continents

Roman legions carried the game across Europe. Boards have been found scratched into the pavements of Roman forums and amphitheatres, evidence of soldiers and citizens alike playing.

Medieval India

Navakankari in the Subcontinent

The game arrived in India and was christened 'Navakankari' (nine pieces). It became a beloved pastime in royal courts and village squares, embedded in Indian cultural heritage.

Medieval Europe

The Medieval Craze

Shakespeare himself referenced Nine Men's Morris in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1595), testifying to its vast popularity across all strata of European society.

The Board

3 Concentric Squares

Outer, Middle, and Inner squares form the playing field.

24 Intersections

These are the only valid positions where pieces can be placed or moved to.

Lines Connect Midpoints

Each square's midpoints connect to the adjacent square, allowing piece movement.

11 Pieces Per Player

Gold vs Red — each player has 11 pieces to deploy strategically.

Phase 1

Place

  • Players alternate placing one piece per turn
  • Place on any empty intersection
  • All 11 pieces must be placed before moving
  • Form mills to remove opponent pieces

Phase 2

Move

  • Move one piece along a line per turn
  • Can only move to adjacent empty positions
  • Continue forming and breaking mills
  • Each mill formation removes one opponent piece

Victory

Win

  • Reduce opponent to fewer than 3 pieces
  • OR block all opponent's moves
  • Special: 3-piece 'flying' — jump anywhere
  • Last mill wins — no draws!

What is a Mill?

A Mill is formed when you align three of your pieces in a straight line along any connected row on the board. The moment a mill forms, you must remove one of your opponent's pieces from the board permanently. You can even open and close the same mill repeatedly — moving a piece out, then back in — to keep removing enemy pieces!
